I am a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, majoring in mechanical engineering. Outside of my classes, I work on Georgia Tech's electric formula style student racing team as a part of the suspension team. During high school, I was involved in FIRST robotics as my team's engineering lead.
What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?Through my NPO NOVA Youth Robotics, I hosted library workshops to help upper elementary aged students gain an initial look at the applicability of STEM in the real world through facilitated discussions and hands-on building activities. I also hosted recurring engineering classes at a local Kumon center and taught students two parallel classes: intro to CAD and basic circuits. I was able to adapt the curriculum such that even elementary school students could showcase their creativity using real engineering tools.
What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?Throughout high school and college, I have taken various high-level math/CS courses, including Multi-variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computer Vision. I have also taken many engineering courses, including Engineering Graphics (CAD), Circuits & Electronics, Computing for Engineers, Automation/Robotics, and Prototyping.
Over my senior year of high school, I designed and fabricated a modular quadrupedal robot (robot dog) with the ability to walk over uneven surfaces. I also designed and assembled 18 in. aluminum robots for my FIRST Tech Challenge team, winning various awards over three years.
What excites you about teaching and working with students?I love providing students with a unique outlet for their creativity. Even when some students struggle, it is always worth it to work one-on-one with them to help them get over a small hump and see them get as excited as everyone else. When they are finally doing an activity on their own, it’s an awesome experience to see them light up and show off their progress.
Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?Outside of school, I love baking breads and pastries for my family. I also love playing soccer, and was previously a goalkeeper for my high school team.
